Art by Frances Bates

Welcome to my digital portfolio!
I'm a Twin Cities based artist/designer with a BFA in Industrial Design from UW - Stout and member of the social justice nonprofit Art to Change the World (ACW).
I was born to make art. Growing up my dream was to be an inventor that helps make the world a better place. As a kid I started making found object art and homemade gifts and continue doing this today. My family has always taken me to museums and art events to encourage my interest in art. Then I went to school for Industrial Design, which is considered the art side of engineering. Now I have experience in a variety of art forms including product design, graphic design, sculpture, jewelry, sewing, photography, and woodworking.
My art often reflects just how much I care about helping others. I have a passion for issues of diversity, the world of dancing, and camping gadgetry. As a lesbian with autism, I understand how important it is to empower your community.
I participate in a variety of art events so follow me on social media or check out the Events section of my website to see what I'm up to. Previously, I had a studio at the Dow Arts Building and now I'm located at the Schmidt Artist Lofts. You can also find my work in the Fox Den Gallery at the Solar Arts Building and ACW Headquarters at the Flux Arts Building.
